  Ms Lane worked with the class to help them create a clay self portrait.  She showed us how to use our fingers to trace around our face while thinking about the shape. What is the widest part of your face? At the end of the morning we looked at a map of Minnesota .  Then we looked at a map of the United States of America and found Minnesota.  The class shared what States they had visited, or are going to visit during Spring Break.   Students were interested in the key showing the Swamp and desert areas.  We had to look at a different map to find the mountains.  Comparing it to the mountain images that were shown on Marie Tharp's map.   Looking at Minnesota on each map, were they the same size, or different?  Why? We ended our morning by reading about Sacagawea.   How she helped the Explorers, Lewis and Clark travel across the country so they could create a map. How did they travel across the country?   Masks, fans and storybook making were very popular today.   What did you like about the stories friends made? The class was very interested in the boxelder beetles crawling all over the window. Why did we only find the Boxelder beetles crawling on one window?  What songs did you sing with Ms. Hansell?

We read Wilma Unlimited by Kathleen Krull.  The true story of Wilma Rudolph.   How many gold medals did Wilma win in the Olympics  Everyone completed mixing play dough to create a color close to their skin tone.  What did you name your skin color? As I had a crutch and wheelchair in the room this was a great opportunity to open up a conversation about physical diversity and look closely at the little people manipulatives in our classroom.
